From 15 to 17 February, the city of Malaga played host to the 11th Conference of the Spanish Society for Digital Dentistry and New Technologies (SOCE), where students and lecturers from the Faculty of Dentistry took part through presentations and talks. The event was divided into several blocks, exploring the impact of technology on dental surgery and dental treatments, and how technology can be applied to interdisciplinary procedures.

Four students from the Faculty were awarded during the conference for their talks. More specifically, Pablo Jané, a student from the Master's Degree in Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry, received recognition for the best clinical talk for his work “Digital protocol for guided stamp technique composites in direct restorations. A Case Study.” On the other hand, Jorge Arroyo, another student on the Master's Degree, was awarded for his research talk titled “The use of lasers to eliminate aesthetic ceramic restorations in dentistry: a literature review”.

Borja Fernández, a student of the Master's Degree in Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry, and Radina Temelkova, a student on the Bachelor's Degree in Dentistry, presented talks on “Protocol to develop complete mucosa-supported prostheses through digital flow: two case studies” and “A digital workflow for the autotransplantation of mandibular molar” respectively.

As award-winner Pablo Jané explains, “receiving recognition for my talk has been an excellent way to introduce myself to presenting at conferences.” He added, “I really think that all the students at the Faculty of Dentistry at UIC Barcelona gave excellent presentations, and the awards are also collective, as we never study the cases individually, and the other master's students and professors contribute with their thoughts.”

At the end of the conference, it was also announced that Dr Mitchel Chávez and Dr Bárbara Pamies, both professors at the Faculty of Dentistry, will head the next Conference of the Spanish Society for Digital Dentistry and New Technologies, SOCE Barcelona 2025, which will be held from 31 January to 1 February next year.
